A cheeky little choke when caught in closed guard!

July 28, 2019

hey guys coach Tom Here I am now going to show you how to break the rules and I'm going to show you how to do a choke it's reliable and effective from inside someone's clothes guys don't tell anyone this is boiled all right here we are in how pilots clothes God now maybe your partner is like Mike Heinen here today Cain who does have long legs it's going to be hard to open those legs he's really using them from closed guard so sometimes being timid hanging out back here isn't our best approach maybe you're in a competition or even a role in the matter okay even a fight on the street doesn't really matter and you need to finish that one right now okay so we are going to break some rules we are going to make a posture with a Malian forward and we're going to choke from an inferior position okay so we're going to break these three rules but before we do let's have a look at what this choke is so I'm come forward grab my sleeve and this hand comes over the neck now I finish him right here so we need to now know that that's the technique and we're going to learn how to do it but we also need to know the dangers so first let's look at how to do the technique I'm simply going to come forwards and grab my left hand around my opponent now when you do this you must hold them tight so they can't slip out and get your back right you must also hold them in a way that your balance point is on this side because if my balance point is on this side you can roll me now okay you go on that so I want to hold his head tight and I want to keep my balance point over opposite because I now don't have a post to stop the roll however I'm also about ours so here's the simple rule I move wherever his hips move so if I grab my arm around him like this he can start going for armbar so if he starts to turn by Polly if I don't we can turn in our money so he can turn this way and he can arm right that sucks so if he turns I turn there you go that's that's how to take care of the downside so now let's look at the upside a choke okay so I've grabbed his head here and I bring my head down close I want to make sure his chin faces up and he can't see all this nonsense that I'm about to do so I bring my head down here close and now my left hand grabs punching Knuckles deep in to my right cuff and now I keep my right hand up right I bet my fingers so he can't grab hold of them and I put this up near my ear and then I lift my head up and I'm going to rip my two arms across that way okay full body strength move I'm not going to wing my hand in front of his neck I'm simply gonna grab punching that goes deep and I am going to lift up and go and rip this across with force and now I simply pull my left elbow back as my right hand goes underneath my own elbow and extend so I in essence have got his neck in here and I'm gonna pull that back as that I said and his necks in here and now that space is gone and that's happy choice so I'm here if he tries to move I follow follow him and now I get my grip and I get my choke and once we're ready we just apply quick easy tap this works so well one more time and speed I can't get out of here car passes guard so the kids breaking my posture I'll say okay I'll come down but now I'm gonna get ready and up and over and finish easy quick finish from the guard it works your risks are that takes sweeps and armbars that's why your instructor would normally say never ever choke someone from inside the guard but if we know what the downside is and we've taken care of those potential downside risks all that we have left is other side and anyone who's being choked by this knows that there is a definite upside in fact one of my female white bar students just won a big tournament recently and in the final match this is coach you wanna Andy Ezekiel choke from inside her opponents guy thanks for watching guys enjoy hey guys thanks for watching the video I hope you loved it for more videos click here and if you want to subscribe to our YouTube channel click here I'm coach Tom thanks for watching and I'll catch you next time

Is this allowed in practice or rolling with classmates in the Gym

Are you choking by putting pressure on the trachea or the carotids?

The first tournament match I won was using the Ezekiel Choke. My opponent was very strong but the more he tried to push me off the tighter it became. Nasty little choke.

    LOVE this choke!!

Very, very risky. Might work once. Use judiciously. Tried this on a purple belt. He looked at me like I'd lost my mind… and he swept and arm-barred me.

    That choke's not instantaneous.

this is cheeky. It left me annoyed with a sore neck from a guy ramming his fist into my throat for a whole minute. Wasn't enough to tap me out.

    Awesome!

I tried this on a guy yesterday and he tucked his chin against his chest and I couldn't get my hand across

Coach, how on earth do I avoid this as the person on bottom? A guy in class just uses this every time we roll and it’s annoying because I can’t seem to keep away from it.

Just a query, I didn’t think you should try and sub someone from inside their guard? I love your videos and will try it

  • Reply GetShreddedBrahh July 28, 2019 at 11:38 am

    Is this legal in competition?

  • Reply Tom Archer July 28, 2019 at 11:38 am

Two weeks ago, I started rolling again after 3+ years of surgeries and recovery. During open mat, I successfully pulled this off against a player at my level and another higher-ranked player who remarked he had never seen this from the bottom! It's going to be a long journey back, but it was nice to have one thing to work for me. Please keep up these techniques for those of us who are always in inferior positions! 🙂

This is awesome. Im fairly new to bjj and have only been doing it a few months. Im forever getting caught in opponents guard and struggle to pass just now. I will keep u updated on wether this gets me my 1st sub or not.

  • Reply Hans David July 28, 2019 at 11:38 am

This is awesome. I (white belt, 2 months of training) just got my first submission on a blue belt today using this.

The only downside is that now everyone in the academy know that I used this so they are far more cautious when I am inside their closed guard. Lol.

  • Reply Hans David July 28, 2019 at 11:38 am

Coach, is there a no gi variant? Thank you.

  • Reply Donnell kennedy July 28, 2019 at 11:38 am

Tried this today and it totally worked! The guy I rolled with was flabbergasted lol! Thanks!

  • Reply Panther123ism July 28, 2019 at 11:38 am

Sorry, this don't work. They can push you with their legs. If you still want to try this, use the knuckles it more effective

Started BJJ about a month ago. I'm still the newest in class and watched this video last night. Got my first tap ever tonight, by using it. Came close to getting three more with it on different rolling partners after that. They all said roughly the same thing "That was so sneaky" "I think I let that get way too deep before I realized I had to defend it". I've got to be halfway through watching all your videos at this point and tomorrow rolling, I can't wait to try the side control escape from your video. Thanks!
