A Realistic But Effective Closed Guard Break

a realistic and easy but effective closed guard brain hey guys coach Tom I'm here with Reese we all get stuck in the closed guard and some people whether they're tall or short lanky or strong it can be hard navigating their closed guard without ending up in some kind of tricky hoping guard sweep or submission little own just sometimes trying to break people's clothes guards and their legs don't come out but well we can't get posture enough to stand here's a little hack I use and it's one that you can use as well and I give credit this technique to my coach Professor Carlos Machado coral belt BJJ in Texas you guys better check that guy out if you're ever in Dallas or nearby because he gave me a few pointers on this that really really helped so if I think close guards of Reese good sometimes you just can't get out of people's clothes guards okay he might have my posture broken and things like that and I can be in my gear or not and I'm gonna face similar problems he's gonna be breaking my god dad you call it rugby in the game but especially if he's got my posture broken sometimes it can be hard to get my posture back to stand up and if I've got my posture down like this and I stop trying to stand up I'm crime to getting armed locked and swept all these different ways so what's my strategy if I'm either really tired or he's broken me down I want to get inside control okay as best I can and I'm gonna power forward I'm gonna put my weight on it it's really important to practice this because you have to put weight on okay so you can feel my weight right right okay so you can get into this same position which I'll do now with no way and I say do you do away no same position it's kind of invisible right with what okay so what I'm trying to do whether I was in my key or not is I'm gonna wait for him to stop pulling me down as soon as he starts trying to push to create space which he everyone will do then I'm gonna stand up but I'm gonna stand up like that so I'm almost gonna walk forwards together especially if he's a big guy so I'm gonna be here he's holding my posture and I'm keeping my weight on him and just drive my weight on him and then as soon as he starts pushing me to create space I stand up okay and I'm gonna break his gut because I've got him at such a steep angle okay I'm just gonna hold his waist do know you can hold the belt in the gear drive my elbow in and just push down okay now I can start on the Pops okay let's have a look God he's broken my question I don't want to really tell him that my posture back too much because he can attack with so many things so I get inside control I got bored and I put my chest too wide on now that I'm here as soon as he stopped pushing me I get up and I bring my elbows in hold his hip elbow in push his name break thank God every time okay doesn't matter if it's a skinny guy like you guys strong guy you're gonna stand up you're gonna defend and you're going to get the break but most importantly when I'm here in races God if I'm bored like this okay even if I'm here and he tries to get sweeps on me or submissions just don't put whatever you want raise okay [Applause] really uncomfortable yet if we follow the jiu-jitsu Robo right kind of stuff it's a bit annoying but if I be a good jujitsu person and I try to get posture and now we play the same game and I'll give the same level of resistance you can attack me sweet me just do whatever you like I'm doing a same thing I might be able to resist for a while but with the same level of resistance I was giving raises I want to catch me out okay if I didn't get out to play would have swept me but I can do the same level of resistance now with the broken posture and you see a different result okay thank you sign the tax right but that's a lot more frustrating so then what will reach dude he's gonna stop pushing happening get these fans back and now I'm standing up so it's a really great thing it's kind of really frustrating to people but especially when you're in the game and people can try to choke you by moving force on them you know apply their choke their choke is strong here not here okay so give it a try it's almost a little bit like a bad habit though because where you're having bad posture and your coach has always said get good posture first but that's really great sometimes if you're Hodja Gracie and you had good posture to begin with but when you're exhausted them they've pulled you down moving forwards and then up is not only and easier I think it's a safer and more effective option enjoy have fun on the mats on coach Tom I'll see you next time thanks for watching the video guys I hope you loved it for more free videos click here and if you'd like to get our free foot lock mass applause please click here and if you'd like to help support me so I can help bring you I love what you did sue for free every day please click here thank you for watching guys I'm coach Tom I'll see you next time

    I bet this would be good in MMA also. Closing that distance so much, punches are also nullified.

    Once you stand up to try and break the guard, you are vulnerable to the lumberjack sweep!!

    Been @ this game for 2 years now and with a good closed guard player I have a hell of a time getting out. I’ve tried it all Sao Paolo pass when my posture is broken, standing to pass, all variations of on the knees passing and even with good frames and posture I either get swept or broken down. Will give this one a shot.

    I'll try it. I have problems getting out of closed guard when I roll with guys, and I panic, I started not too long ago, so it is good to have a little something to help me.

    Seems like you are pinning the hips to take the opponents ability to attack, once you stand up the break has to be timely or you are vulnerable to waiter sweep counter.

    I don't know if it's just me, but whenever I do that I just get swept amd I don't know what to do to prevent that

    Hi Guys. Well, I actually tried it last night and while I didn't manage to get back to my feet, it did give my partner more "issues"… What I DID have a lot of success with was that utilization of weight pressure and being heavy on my sparring partner making it difficult for him to reverse position. I'm a total beginner, but it felt great to have some "control" however slight it may have been. Thanks much again Coach Tom and team!
