Evolving in the Long Guard – Sylvie's Technique Vlog

hi welcome the sillies technique plug I'm gonna be talking about the long guard which is something that is very important to my time for those of you who don't know what that is if you haven't heard it referred to that or if you don't know what that is it just means that you have your front arm very long so if your self hog that's gonna be your right arm if you're Orthodox attune to your left arm that's what makes it a long guard if you basically have this long bar out you definitely want to be covering your chin and then on the other side you're gonna be walking in a variety of ways on this side but basically the long guard like this is used in my tie because we have longer weapons from boxing so it's keeping someone at a distance for striking or while they're trying to come in and grab you for the clinch that you absolutely need in my tie because of the types of weapons that are coming in you can strike out of it really well which I really like about the long guard and it's been enforced on me from canoe for a very long time because of elbows and for a really long time it didn't make sense to me for me to be reaching out against elbows because it made sense that because elbows are short range you would want to keep your guard and your protection as short range as possible but the thing about that is that if you're guarding like this elbows are short range so someone can get really close to you in order to throw those elbows whereas if you're using the long guard and you're keeping someone at this distance that's too far that's too far for the elbow to land without you moving that arm like I can move my own arm in order to be able to throw those which means that if I'm keeping something off of me with this that's too far for them to throw the elbows so you don't want to be losing your arm out like this because it creates like the boom mic like you can move yourself but you want to be able to flash into it and out of it and something that I was working on for a really long time when I was first learning this and practicing it on my own as a contact like you want to be able to believe in your guard by feeling contact against it so you either have to imagine that if you don't have something actually hitting you or you have to get someone to hit you while you're moving into it like maybe your pad man or something I use the bag impact against my hand because the idea is to keep someone off of you like a teeth so I'll kind of swing the bag and stop it actually feel the impact and stopping someone at that range so if you guys want to hear more about this click on the link in the description and you can head over to patreon where I'm going to be talking a little bit more about how I've been working on this and how it's been evolving for my patrons over

    my long guard always get pulled down and then my side is open for a punch.. happens alot to me in sparring. still trying to figure it out
