Trump never wakes up with Afghanistan or even the US in mind he wakes up with his next election, and covering himself from the crimes he made. Trump just acts tough but he has lost in almost everything except they have the dollar and sanctions.

Stupid Indian trying to protrait a Hindu version of Trump 😂😂😂 but the reality is quite opposite Trump doesn't give a dam about India or Indians, he even called India a shithole country, he made his point clear on Kashmir issue, calling American president a lier would cost India more than they imagine.

Shekhar Gupta thinks only he has a brain and people in the government are playing marbles and gili-danda.

This is what all traitors do. Hatred towards Modi is driving them to such low level that they even ready to support a sycho called Trump.

India and USA should sign an FTA, FTA with China will come in the form of RCEP. Dangle the US companies a carrot in retail and e-commerce. And order some more P8Is. Done.

Now Modi is swallowing the humiliation.

Lol..Trump is being friendly with India ? By allowing India to buy American weapons at export price?

India should revive friendship with Iran it scuttled for America.

And Trump may not be there after year and half.

A very nice and enlightening take on US India partnership and challenges it faces. Hope our strategic planners will think on it seriously and improve our relationship with the US in a way that is beneficial to both the countries.

All said and done Modi is a businessman first and then a politician, why is Modi not keeping the Americans in good humor? There should be a strong reason for that. CAN YOU GUESS THE REASON? My guess is that the US and Trump are not helping Modi as far as Pakistan is concerned. So Modi says "you be with Pakistan I don't care". What's wrong with that policy?

  • Reply S Jamil July 26, 2019 at 8:08 am

  • Reply Rajiv Sethi July 26, 2019 at 8:08 am

What are you trying to say here? Are you suggesting that we please Trump any which way and do everything that he wants us to do? There is a reason why we have sixty billion trade deficit with China. We do not manufacture a lot of items which Indian consumer wants because we are focused on the core sectors of our economy and defense. We also know that as long as the deficit lasts, China will not want a war with India. Who wants to lose a milch cow?

US has been arms supplier for Pakisatn for decades. This led to us getting arms from only other sourse- Russia. US behavior on military matters leaves deficit of trust. Think of denial of nuclear technology, space technology, cryogenic engine etc. even after end of cold war. India was forced to develop all these by ourselves. Hats off to our scientists for their achievements in these fields. Only after India acquired some strength, US has some needs that India can help meet. So we have to be cautious and put our interests above everything else.

The only hope from Chinese world domination is massive trade between the US and India. Trump is a fool and he will be out of office eventually, so don't worry about him. Freedom of speech and human rights are what matters, where China does not enforce either.

Such problem will continue to happen till you have an islamist/extremist population in Kashmir openly hostile to India. None of this would have happened had India done the same to Kashmiri muslims in what they did to kashmiri pundits in 1989. Kashmiri muslim populatio is just 4 milliom. Can be easily made to disappear, run away to Pakistan etc. Learn from Myanmar in Rakhine, China in Xinjiang, Sri Lanka in Jaffna amd Russia in Chechnya.

A googly by Mr Trump? It can also be hit for a six! Our trade surplus is $24.2 billion with the USA: https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/south-central-asia/india
Anyway, India is a mature nation today, and we know how to protect our interests.

  • Reply manofsan July 26, 2019 at 8:08 am

Rather than trying to analyze the motives behind Trump's words, I'd rather analyze the motives behind Shekhar Gupta and his words. The fact is that Trump makes such off-the-cuff statements all the time about anything and everything – this is his most well-known feature. There's nothing to blow up here, but Gupta wants to have something to blow up, because he wants something to make a drama about. But we've all watched Gupta's penchant for antics for some time now, so this too is well known. There is nothing to indicate any serious power play by Trump. The fact is that the US does need Pakistan's help to get access to Afghanistan, but India is far more strategically important to the US than Pakistan. But what's most important to Gupta is not India, the US, or Pakistan – it's his need for drama – even if he has to drum something up.

India under Modi has ordered these weapons from USA-
    Apache Helicopters
    Chinook Helicopters
    M777 howitzers
    Sig-Saur Rifles
    P8i Surveillance Aircraft
Also has agreed to buy 6 US nuclear plants.
What more do we need to buy?
US won't sell us nuclear submarines.
    US doesn't have diesel submarines.
US won't sell us F35 and wants us to buy 50 year old F16 while Russia offers newest Su 57.
Then they cry around that India doesn't buy from US.
It is quite shameful that a country of India's size has to appease superior powers with tribute to get by normally.

  • Reply stairway to heaven July 26, 2019 at 8:08 am

We are wasting our money buying weapons from foreign countries while not even investing 10% of it to develop our own.As long as we remain weak and dependent others will threaten and exploit us.
