    My late father, toward the end of the Saipan campaign in his Chief Pharmacist (now Hospital Corpsman) capacity went to Marpi Pt. to assist that pocket of Islanders, Japanese, and other nationalities to save those who were bent on jumping off the cliffs rather then face the barbarous Americans. He helped run a 15,000 person "displaced persons camp "Camp Susupi" until Jan '46. Narragansett Bay
