Rep. Mark Takano Takes Action to Save 300 Jobs in Moreno Valley

July 23, 2019

hello everyone I'm mark Takano and I represent Riverside County here in Congress I would like to give you an important update on a key priority for our community that was recently included in the National Defense Authorization Act otherwise known as NDAA in the house the NDAA is the legislation that authorizes funding for our national defense as some of you may know defense media activity a Defense Department operation that broadcasts news entertainment and other content to service members and their families around the world is housed at March Air Reserve Base nearly 300 employees from the Inland Empire including military civilian and contractor personnel help run this important operation earlier this year the Department of Defense announced that it was looking to move these defense media jobs out of our community losing these high-skilled jobs in the Elana power would be devastating for employees and their families it would also make it harder for our military to maintain readiness and fulfill their mission requirements from the moment I learned about these efforts I have made it clear that I oppose any efforts to move defense media operations away from March Air Reserve Base and I have taken action to protect these jobs last week I offered a bipartisan amendment to the NDAA that will save these 300 jobs in Miranda Valley by requiring the Department of Defense to justify to Congress any consolidation plans and prohibit the use of any funding toward consolidation until they do currently the department has failed to provide sufficient justification for moving these jobs out of our community without a justification the department will not be able to eliminate these jobs my amendment passed the House with broad bipartisan support passing this amendment is just one of many steps we need to take to keep these jobs in the Inland Empire I will be tireless in my efforts to protect the language I added to NDAA as the bill moves to conference in the next couple of months including my amendment in the version of NDA that will become law will not only help our own community but also help hundreds of other workers across the country who would lose their jobs in a consolidation as this bill moves forward through the legislative process I will keep you updated on any developments if you have any questions please reach out to my office thank you

Thank you Congressman Takano for your efforts to protect DoD jobs in the IE, as well as the great work you do on behalf of all our veterans in this area. As a long term combat arms Army vet with a service-related disability, I know you have made a difference for me and many other vets in the IE!
