Starbase – Spaceship Warfare & Weapons

hello everyone and welcome to another Starbase video now that you’ve seen what our infantry weapons can do let’s take a look at something bigger spaceship battles and mounted weapons first of all let’s talk about damage like everything else in Starbase the ships can be damaged in various ways causing different side effects damage to a ship’s hull might affect its balance which makes the ship more difficult to control thruster damage may make the ship spin out of control or stop it entirely damage to the fuel rods or propellant tanks will cause explosions and a single well-aimed shot can cut a wire that cuts out the ship’s power entirely having a designated repair man or two will definitely help you during big fights to fill up the holes in your home and fix the wiring for a bigger damage such as losing parts of the ship you might need to have replacement parts handy or steal some from someone else’s ship now let’s take a closer look at the mounted weaponry the mounted weapons consist of different parts here’s the autocannons parts as an example the ammo drum which stores inactive ammo and explodes if it’s damaged the ammo struct which converts ammo from the drum to active ammo the body which handles the cooling and converts the power from the generator to local power and the barrel which consumes power and ammo to shoot while generating heat in the process every part has its role and different variations of parts can be used to alter the weapons in different ways such as to increase the fire rate or use different types of ammo the mounted weapons are attached to spaceships or space stations by a device base either a fixed or a rotating one which allows them to connect to the device network to gain power as well as to be used with Yolo Yolo the in-game programming language can be used for instance the program more complex controlling and aiming solutions with mounted weapons how you place them use them and aim them is key and completely up to here’s the current selection of mounted weapons autocannon a fast firing weapon with a widespread laser cannon an energy weapon generally used to take out fast and agile ships plasma thrower and energy weapon with a slower fire rate but feels fracture damaged rail cannon a powerful weapon that requires a charge up swarmer missile weapon which shoots a swarm of small fast missiles there’s also more weapons in the works such as other types of missiles besides mounted weapons you can think of creative combat solutions using star bases other devices as well such as cargo beams for locking an enemy ship in place or using a mining laser as a weapon and if all your weapons are out of ammo and you’re desperate enough to possibly damage your own ship in the process ramming is also a viable option just make sure you’re the one with the bigger ship you

    I really enjoy these videos, I can't wait until the game comes out! The narrator does a really good job and seems genuinely enthusiastic for the game as well.

    I can actually see some crew roles: Hull Repairer, Electric Engineer, Ship Engineer, Gunner, Commander and maybe a YOLOL Programmer, the quantity of each may change depending on the size and complexity of the ship, you also may can have some guys as troops in case of a ship invasion, and if you're a solo player, well… you'll need to fulfill every role.

    Also would be very cool if some players become really good in spaceship battles and become mercenaries, imagine a ship with high valuable things and surrounded with a bunch of contracted mercenaries escorting it and they're obliterating anyone that come close, that would be AWESOME!!

    Ramming will be my ships main option
    Just gonna make a real sized replica of an emperor class warship
    Then proceed to ram the servers CPU into oblivion.
    (But if under any chances it works then no ship is safe)
    Plus I hope we can make space torpedoes to broadside the hell out of enemy ships.

    Now the question is could we somehow make physics based weaponry to rival and/or surpass the mounted weapons in power, like maybe using a serie of tractor beams and/or cargo beams mounted on rails to accelerate something up to high speed

    I can already see the problem: you connect things at points you know, but won't know the player. You need to change the textures so that the connection points or lines will be visible otherwise it will be very confusing to the players.

    Are more advanced weapons such as spine mounted railguns, and guided missile pods going to be in game? Every single ship building game seems to rely on turret spam, where you simply cover every spare inch of your ship in turrets. I worry this one is going to head the same way.

    Ok, seriously, you guys need to allow weapons of different sizes. Having all your spaceship weapons of roughly the same size is how you get the lackluster space combat that is Space Engineers; once you get above a certain ship size combat is basically just small turrets. There's no ability to design larger guns to allow for a variety of ship classes more akin to the world war period. So please, allow for guns to be of a customization size. Please! It'll make the game much better!

    So they're giving us details about the actual game before we buy it and they're not asking for a subscription. Plus we know about combat and ship combat already. This will be the game that will replace Space Engineers for me.

    Artificial gravity generators to accelerate 3-d printed projectiles and create a huge fixed gravity cannon that can snipe enemies from far outside their reach? I love beam-mounted weapons, there is just something special in piloting what is essentially a huge cannon disguised as a ship <3

    Also, programmable missiles with variable loads and potential for remote control would be amazing, so would be planets and asteroids. Basically I dream of this game doing everything Space Engineers currently do, but better and with these amazing building, physics, and combat features on top.

    the only thing i fear, that you have to manually controll the controll surfaces to fly a ship, i just want to be able to use the keys of my own keyboard to fly it, mayby also the mouse but i dont want to use the mouse to moove those levers

    No game has ever run with such an intricate concept so far, imagine your main fleet battleship running out of ammo, so someone from the supply ship takes a small craft to said battleship, allowing a clutch comeback in the end of a very close battle

    0:40 This is honestly what every other voxel/physics space game needed. What makes this so similar to starmade/Space Engineers is that ship subsystems will have to be taken into account when building them. Ships will actually have to be built from a practical standpoint. If selling ship designs is a thing, then you can expect multiple talented ship designers splitting off and making their own brands of ships and such, diversifying the economy, and allowing the game to grow in more ways than previously intended.

    I honestly wanted something like this in space engineers for the longest time, but i don't think that was ever taken into consideration. You've swayed me. Bravo.

    Looks really nice but given the current state of gaming im sure you'll forgive me for not getting hyped until i actually have my hands on the product.
    One question though, is it possible to hide these bolts that tack the parts together? I dont mind the idea of bolting stuff together, but im not a fan of cyan pimples all over my ship either.

    Should be "…youre one with HEAVIER SHIP" or to be precise "your ship has MORE MASS" and also "your ship fly faster"…
    …size has little to do with ramming except interaction area, mass and velocity DOES translate into kinetic energy.

    This game looks seriously good.

    Regarding the projectile weapons, I thought of something which could be really fun in-game and mix up projectile weapons a bit.

    Make parts stackable which in turn has an effect on the guns properties such as:
    – stack barrels to increase barrel length: long barrels = more accuracy and range.
    – Stack main bodies (recievers?) making the guns body bigger: bigger bodies = more damage but a slower fire rate.

    To ensure people don't make a ship full of rediculous guns you could add these effects:
    – More parts = heavier = slower moving / tracking gun.
    – More parts = more power consumption.

    This would mean than players would be required to have a variety of different projectile weapons to face different threats whilst also making it impossible to make extremely fast firing and powerful guns.

    A capital ship would still need small guns to combat small fighters and bombers, for instance.
