It’s a really good opportunity for us to come
and showcase the aircraft and bring all the Loughborough graduates, you know, get everybody back together and get back here to see the University and to
allow all the undergraduates to see us and kind of see what we’ve done since we
were here and what we’ve you know what we’ve done since we’ve graduated. The Loughborough connection came together initially about three years ago now over a beer in
the Arctic Circle with Lieutenant Ollie Trowman who’s our maintenance test
pilots. We put two and two together and figured that it’d be useful to come back
here one day knowing the kind of requirement in the Royal Navy for
engineers as well and also Loughborough being a hub of engineering activity we
figured it would be a useful outreach program. It’s been a very long time so an awful
lot has changed even flying around it this morning
I lost my bearings within seconds but it’s really lovely to come back. I’ve
been wanting to for a number of years. I’ve got a lot of you know high-calibre,
really good individuals working for the force and we’ve all come from here
so quite a good story I think you
My name is Brent Shetley, sergeant Brent
Shetley with Oklahoma State Police Department. I am a pilot and I’ve been in the
air support unit for almost twenty years now. Our missions entail searches
for missing people, suspected criminals, we get involved with the police chases
and we also do public relations events Usually if we don’t get a call immediately, we’ll go ahead and take a routine patrol flight, flying around the city, look for things that just doesn’t look normal for us from the air. There’s always two of us on board.
The pilot and then a TFO which stands for Tactical Flight Officer. His job is to communicate with the officers
on the ground, communicate with dispatch on our police radios. He will be the one that controls the infrared
and the searchlight if it’s at nighttime. We have binoculars that we can also use during daytime searches. The H125’s reason we chose it was because of
its versatility, its load capabilities, horsepower and overall performance. The H125 is a great airship for
the law enforcement mission. It’s very very quick to start up
and be up to full operational speed There’s plenty of room in the cockpit
for all the mission equipment that we need; it has a abundance of power, it holds approximately three and a half hours
worth of fuel so on extended missions, we’ve usually got plenty of fuel that we can stay on site. It has the ability to be disassembled and reassembled quickly. The maintenance aspects of it are very simple. Since we’ve had them for the past four years,
we’ve had very few times that the aircraft has been out of service. I’ve been in the aircraft now for four years
and it’s a joy to fly or be a passenger and doing work and not having
to think of or worry about much of anything. I would like to say to the employees at Airbus, you are producing a very very nice product
and we’re very happy to be part of.

After graduation from EOD school, technicians learn a variety of techniques that will allow them to be effective in any situation. Students learn basic parachute techniques such as helicopter egress methods including repelling and fast roping, as well as special insertion and extraction procedures. EOD technicians also receive instruction in plan navigation, tactical communication, and take part in special weapons courses.

I’ve got nothing on night vision. Switching to thermal. You alright? My leg. Don’t worry, we’re gonna get you home.
The craziest thing I go to do as a Navy physician – two things. One is to fly over the French Alps in a Cobra helicopter.
And the second one is trying to land a helicopter on a helicopter carrier. I got one try and then the pilot took controls.
