I know you're active duty, but do you know about how long the process takes for Air Guard? I first spoke to a recruiter almost a month ago and I still have no update :/

I have a question: if I already have my Associates, will the credits from boot camp and tech school count towards my BA or….?

hey girl, 5:06 sorta scares me because I wouldn't want to tell a recruiter "yes, I actually can" because it seems so disrespectful. But I think it's very good that you let us know that we are "in control until we sign that contract"!!!!! I feel great knowing that! I asked my reserve marine cousin to come with me to the R's office too, so that also helps. I can be stubborn, no problem. YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE BEST AROUND FOR AF!!! 😀

Hiiii I recently graduated college with a degree in kinesiology. I was told by the officer recruiters that only experienced officers are needed and they sent my info to an enlisted recruiter. I was told another time my degree is considered a “general” degree but another person told me don’t let them tell you you can’t enter as an officer? I’m just wondering if I should say “I’ll wait” like you said for the job, or enlist at a higher rank ?

Girl I'm praying I get firefighting because that is the ONLY job I want. My recruiter would say "Oh I wouldn't recommend, my brother was a firefighter and had to pull out dead babies from fires" probably because he knew I had a child." But then again he did mention the jobs I qualified were "general jobs" and included firefighting. I have been working with him for over a year due to my son being with me for 6 months and then my weight. I'm bringing him blood work results and documents today so hopefully we can schedule a MEPS appointment sometime soon. UGH. This has been such a frustrating process, but I'm praying it'll be worth it in the end and I actually get my job I want.

Just find another recruiter even if it’s an hour or so away. I got my first job ATC after being told by another only maintenance is available. ATC is 4 or 6 now look it up.

My husband went in Open and he had an amazing experience. If you score high on the asvab, (he got 98)they’re not going to give you a less desirable job. If you score low on the ASVAB and you go Open… yeah that’s a gamble like she said lol 😂

My recruiter scratched out a few jobs i had on my list such as flight attendant and graphic design saying that i can't get into those jobs first going in and that those are jobs that you can only get if you've been in the Air Force for some time. I didn't list it but he said the same thing about your job. Is that true? Because I've seen people listing their ship dates saying that they're going in as a flight attendant and I'm like how?

Please dont listen to this advice, she doesnt know what she is talking about.

    Current active duty recruiter.

    1. Each MEPS have different policies. In my squadron you are required to list 8 jobs and if your qualified, 2 of them must be 2 Mechanical or an Electrical job. If your not qualified for Mech or Elec jobs then you will list security forces as one of your options. If you turn down a job on your list, you will be politely DEP discharged.

    2. No such thing as waiting for a job. Most of you will be DEP discharged if you turned down

    3. Our squadron actually has a policy that states you must list certain jobs on your job list if you qualify. Please contact me and I can show you be MFR signed by my superintendent.

    4. You cannot list jobs that we are not hiring for! For example, photojournalist. I haven't seen that job ever on the job list. So you will not list it. You can't go to a bank and say I'm going to wait for the manager position to open.

    5. Open anything is not a bad thing at all. For example, I came open general. You will actually have more options at BMT.

This was so helpful when going to meet with my recruiter! I decided to join the Air National Guard, but the same tips apply when talking to them! I just started the process of joining the Air national guard and am documenting it! If anyone wants to follow along I am documenting it on Instagram (@guardmyjourney)

You are only allowed to stay in the DEP for a certain period of time. That is actually in the procedural guidance.

  • Reply Yep why July 26, 2019 at 7:52 am

Please keep in mind that it is a privilege, not a Right, to join the Air Force. Your recruiter can turn you away if it's not in the "best interest in the Air Force" to put you in. If you tell the recruiter that you are only going to join for one specific job they're probably going to tell you to put in an application in the civilian sector.

Thank you for this information. My recruiter told me that my jobs are not available. And I need to list another 10 jobs because there's no way I can get any of the jobs I want.

I went to the office two weeks ago of the Air Force, and there was the recruiter and some helper of the recruiter said that they weren't recruiting for medics because there was a lady next to me that had the medicine clothing on and she was studying medicine or something so, that poor lady had to leave and search for another branch when they said that to her so, i guess i have to choose aviation maintenance instead

I’m at fort lee right now staying in the hotel before meps tomorrow, and I’ve told my recruiter 200 times before I don’t want to do mechanical but he keeps pushing it. So he just called me and said the commander only approved my waiver (for my bankruptcy) because she thought I was going in mechanical. And he pretty much told me I had to join for mechanical. Can he do that or do you think he’s bsing me?
